WHAT WE BELIEVE

We are a life-giving, Bible believing, Christian Church in Alexandria, MN.

Read below to learn more about our heart, our mission, and our beliefs.

OUR HEART

We strive to be about what Jesus was about.

Reach the Lost, Lead the Found.

John 14:23-24: 23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me."

OUR HEART

OUR MISSION

Love God. Love People. Help Others Love God.

Our mission is based on Jesus'

two "Great Statements".

The Great Commandment

Matthew 22:37-39: 37 "Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind'. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself'. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

The Great Commission

Matthew 28:19-20: 19 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

That is our mission, to love God, love people, and help others love God. We are a church that promotes a relationship with God, not religion. We desire to be a church known for our love. And we are a church for people who don't go to church.

OUR BELIEFS

01

THE BIBLE IS INSPIRED BY GOD

The Old and New Testament are verbally inspired by God, the only written revelation from God to man. The Bible is infallible and the authoritative rule of faith and conduct for mankind.

2 Timothy 3:15-17; 1Thessalonians 2:13; 1 Peter 1:21

03

THE TRINITY

God has eternally existed in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The three are coequal and are one God.

Genesis 1:1, 26, 27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14

02

THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUE GOD

God is called by many different names because of the different dimensions of His personality, but God is one. God is super-dimensional and eternally self-existent. God is omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent. He is the creator of the heavens and the earth. While God is one, He has revealed Himself in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Deuteronomy 6:4; John 8:54-59; Genesis 1 & 2; Matthew 28:19

04

JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. The Scripture declares His virgin birth; His sinless life, His miracles, His substitutionary death on the cross, His bodily resurrection from the dead and His exaltation to the right hand of God.

Matthew 1:18-23; Hebrews 7:26; 1 Peter 2:22; 1 John 3:4-5; Acts 2:22, 10:37-38; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 Corinthians 15:4; Matthew 28:1-6; 1 Corinthians 15:4; Acts 1:9,11; Philippians 2:9-11

05

THE FALL OF MAN

Man was created in the image of God. By a voluntary act of the will, Adam and Eve disobeyed God. That first sin had several repercussions: Man was excommunicated from the Garden of Eden, a curse was pronounced, the process of physical death began and man died spiritually. Sin separated humankind from God and left man in a fallen and sinful condition.

Genesis 2:26, 3:6, 3:23, 3:14-19, 2:17; Romans 5:12-19; Ephesians 2:11-18; Romans 3:23

07

BAPTISM IN WATER

The Scripture teaches that all who repent and believe in Christ are to be baptized by immersion. Baptism is a public profession of faith in Christ. It is symbolic of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. It is a declaration to the world that we have died to sin and have been raised with Christ to walk in newness of life.

Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:4

06

THE SALVATION OF MAN

The only means of salvation is Jesus Christ. He died on the cross to pay the penalty of our sins. He offers each of us a pardon for our sins and wants us to become children of God. When we put our faith in Christ, it triggers a spiritual chain reaction. We become the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. We become citizens of heaven. We are given eternal life. We are adopted and become children of God. Our sins are forgiven and forgotten. We are credited with the righteousness of Christ. We are born again. God takes ownership of us. We receive an eternal inheritance. The evidence of salvation is two-fold. The internal evidence is the direct witness of the Holy Spirit. The external evidence is the fruit of the Spirit. We become a new creation and are transformed into the image of Christ.

Acts 4:12; John 14:6; 1 Peter 2:24; Hebrews 9:26; John 1:12; 1 Corinthians 6:19; Revelation 3:5; Philippians 3:20-21; John 3:16; Galatians 4:4-7; Hebrews 8:12; Romans 4:4-5; John 3:3; 1 Corinthians 6:20; Ephesians 1:13-14; 1 Peter 1:3-5; Romans 8:16; Galatians 5:22-23; 2 Corinthians 5:17; 2 Corinthians 3:18

08

COMMUNION

The Lord’s table consists of two elements: the bread and cup. Those elements are symbolic of the body and blood of Christ. Communion is a memorial of Christ’s sufferings on the cross and a celebration of our salvation. It is an opportunity for a believer to examine himself and experience forgiveness.

2 Peter 1:4, 1 Corinthians 11:26

09

THE CHURCH & ITS MISSION

The Church is the body of Christ and has a three-fold purpose: to evangelize the world, to worship God and to equip for ministry.

1 Corinthians 12:12-27; Acts 1:8; Mark 16:15-16; 1 Corinthians12:13; Ephesians 4:11-16; 1 Corinthians 12:28, 14:12

11

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS ACTIVE TODAY

We believe God’s Spirit is active in the world today as described throughout scripture. We also believe that we can be filled with God’s Spirit who empowers us to live and serve with spiritual gifts that are available to us today. These gifts always operate in harmony with the Scriptures.

Hebrews 2:4; Romans 1:11, 12 :4-8; Ephesians 4:16; 1 Timothy 4:14; 2 Timothy 1:6-7; 1 Corinthians 12:1-31, 14:1-40; 1 Peter 4:10

The nine fruits of the Spirit are the by-product of a Spirit-filled life and evidence of spiritual maturity. The nine gifts of the Spirit are different manifestations of the Spirit to build up the body. We are instructed to diligently seek the gifts, but they must be exercised in an orderly way (I Cor. 14:26-33) in the context of love (I Cor. 13:1-13).

Galatians 5:22-23; 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, 31, 13:1-3, 14:1, 14:26-33

10

EMPOWERED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT FOR MINISTRY & MISSION

We believe the Holy Spirit empowers and leads the church to fulfill the ministry and mission of the church. The church is the Body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of Jesus’ Great Commission. Every person who is born of the Spirit is an integral part of the church as a member of the body of believers. There is a spiritual unity of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Acts 1:8 Ephesians 1:22, 2:19-22; Hebrews 12:23; John 17:11, 20-23

12

JESUS IS COMING BACK AS HE PROMISED

Jesus Christ will physically and visibly return to earth for the second time to establish His Kingdom. This will occur at a date undisclosed by the Scriptures.

Matthew 24:30, 26:63-64; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8; Revelation 1:7
